Makaela Reed, a 22-year-old junior Interdisciplinary Studies Major with a Minor in Theatre at the forever innovative Bennett College, is an emerging playwright with a passion for using theatre as a tool for social change. Her journey into playwriting began with the production of the Hot Chocolate holiday special in 2021, a venture she spearheaded through her business, Tha Chocolate Box. Building on this success, Makaela went on to produce the Hot Chocolate Holiday special in 2022, captivating audiences with her unique storytelling and creative vision. She’s a visionary, collaborating with Colorfarm Media and Erika Alexander on a short play for the movie “The Big Payback,” showcasing her versatility and talent as a playwright. Makaela is committed to using theatre as a platform for restorative justice and healing, which shines in her play ‘DJ ME,’ a tribute to her papa’s enduring beat.
